SITUATION

It’s located to the south of the region of Castilla y León, in the province of Ávila, and it includes 35 municipalities in the province. The vineyard grows mainly on granite soil, with slate in certain areas. It is subject to a Mediterranean climate with continental influence, though in some parts it can have a more mountain climate in vines over 900m above sea level.

The area is defined by the Sistema Central Ibérico (Central-Iberian mountain ranges), particularly by the Gredos mountain range and the rivers Alberche and Tiétar, both tributaries of the Tajo river. The main varieties are albillo real for whites and garnacha for reds, though tempranillo and garnacha tintorera are also permitted as secondary reds.
