SITUATION

On the southern edge of the southern plateau, within the province of Ciudad Real. It includes the municipalities of Alcubillas, Moral de Calatrava, San Carlos del Valle, Santa Cruz de Mudela, Torrenueva and Valdepeñas and part of the municipalities of Alhambra, Granátula de Calatrava, Montiel and Torre de Juan Abad.

CLIMATE

Continental type, with cold winters, very hot summers and low rainfall, usually between 250 and 400 mm. per year.

SOILS

They are mainly reddish-brown and brownish-limestone soils with a high lime content and quite poor in organic matter.

VARIETIES

White: airén, macabeo, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, muscatel de grano menudo and verdejo.

Reds: cencibel (tempranillo), garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and petit verdot.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES
They are made mainly with airén, and increasingly with verdejo. They have a pale or straw yellow color; on the nose they are fresh and fruity and can develop aromas reminiscent of banana or pineapple; in the mouth they are pleasant, but slightly low in acidity.

ROSÉS
Raspberry or pinkish in color, they are fresh, fruity, pleasant and easy to drink.

REDS
The young cencibel wines have a garnet cherry color with violet hues; they offer fruity aromas, almost always of good intensity; in the mouth they have a certain freshness and fruitiness. They are easy to drink and somewhat light wines. In barrel-aged wines, the nuances of the wood are quickly intercepted, ranging from creamy oak to woodwork, depending on the age of the barrel used. In the mouth they are soft, round and quite tasty. Long aging develops reduction nuances rather quickly, such as very tanned leather or the presence of aromas reminiscent of cigars or tobacco.
