SITUATION

In the province of Alicante (51 municipalities of this one) and a small part of the province of Murcia. The vineyard extends in areas near the coast in the surroundings of Alicante capital and, above all, in the area of La Marina, a traditional Muscatel producer, as well as in the interior of the province.

CLIMATE

There is a difference between the vineyards located closer to the coast, where the climate is clearly Mediterranean and somewhat more humid, and those in the interior, which receive continental influences and enjoy a lower rainfall rate.

SOILS

In general, most of the soils in the area are of a brownish-limestone type, with little clay and scarce organic matter.

VARIETIES

Whites: Merseguera, Muscat of Alexandria, Macabeo, Planta Fina, Verdil, Airén, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Reds: monastrell, garnacha tinta (gironet), garnacha tintorera (alicante bouschet), bobal, tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, syrah and petit verdot.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES

The young whites are mainly elaborated with muscatel. They usually have a straw yellow color; in the nose they are frank, fruity and floral; in the mouth they are pleasant to drink. There are also some that reflect the character of the variety, but covered with hints of ripe fruit given by its cultivation in Mediterranean areas. The sweet muscatels from the area of La Marina have hints of honey, auvadas notes and a musky character which is characteristic of the variety.

ROSÉS

Pinkish color; fresh and fruity scents, easy and pleasant to drink.

REDS

The reds are marked by the Mediterranean character. They are warm, fleshy and with good structure; on the nose they can develop balsamic scents (leaf litter, eucalyptus). There is also a line of more classic reds without excessive color extraction and in which, unfortunately, notes of oxidation and a marked reduction can appear if they are submitted to excessive time in the bottle.

FONDILLÓN

This is the historic wine of the region (old wine with high alcohol content and oxidative character). Sometimes it is made as rancio and sometimes it is blended with mistelas.

SPARKLING WINE

Made by the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle. Fresh and with hints of yeast, although in general somewhat heavier than cavas.
