Granted in the summer of 2003, the wine region comprises a diverse territory in the north of the province of Almería that includes the Tabernas Dessert as well as parts of the Sierra de Alhamilla, Sierra de Cabrera and the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Harsh, climatic desert conditions follow a regular pattern of hot days and cooler nights that influence heavily the character of the resulting wines. The vineyard’s average altitude is 525 meters. The varieties planted are chardonnay, moscatel, macabeo and sauvignon blanc (white); as well as tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon, monastrell, merlot, syrah and garnacha tinta (red).
