This geographical indication comprises the wines produced in the island of Formentera. The dry, subtropical mediterranean climate, characterised by abundant sunshine hours and summers with high temperatures and humidity levels but little rainfall, evidently requires grape varieties well adapted to this type of weather. Red varieties are monastrell, fogoneu, tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and merlot; malvasía, premsal blanco, chardonnay and viognier make up its white-grape catalogue.
