Formerly known (up to 2009) as VT I.G.P.Granada Suroeste, the label includes some 53 municipalities in the province of Granada. The region enjoys a unique microclimate very suitable for grape growing, given its low rainfall and the softening effect of the Mediterranean Sea. The white grape varieties used for wine production are vijiriego, macabeo, Pedro Ximénez, palomino, moscatel de Alejandría, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc; as well as the red garnacha tinta, perruna, tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and pinot noir, predominantly.
