LOCATION

It is located in the south of the province of León, grouping almost all the vineyards around Valencia de Don Juan and forming a triangle between the rivers Cea and Esla. It also includes 19 municipalities of Valladolid.

CLIMATE

The temperatures of the river valleys could be a typical Atlantic continental climate, but the elevated position of the León plateau where the vineyards are located, favors a very harsh and cold climate. Strong contrast of temperatures between day and night, with very harsh winters, spring frosts and mild summers. Rainfall is in autumn, reaching up to 500 mm.

SOILS

Of high quality for vine cultivation, with easy drainage. Most of them are located on alluvial terraces, both the brown ones on stony deposits and the limestone ones.

VARIETIES

White: albarín, verdejo, godello, palomino and malvasía.

Reds: prieto picudo, mencía, garnacha and tempranillo.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES 
The local albarín is usually used to produce aromatic wines with white fruit, herbs and a good ripening, triggering these wines to reach a good alcoholic content.
ROSÉS 
The tradition of the rosé wines of the area continues to be maintained, but with a step up in quality. From the sparkling wines of yesteryear to the more fruity and varietal wines of the prieto picudo.
RED WINE 
The red wines are almost all made with prieto picudo. Very intense wines in color, full of aroma of fresh fruit and herbs, similar to the mencía wines, but with more body, tannin and acidity.
