Loureiro
Synonyms: loureiro blanco, loureira, marqués.
Variety of Galician origin, in the northwest of Spain, present in the producing regions of Monterrei, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra and Ribeiro.
White grape of medium budding and ripening. It is commonly found in blended wines, especially together with Albariño, Treixadura and Godello, a recurrent mixture in Ribeiro whites. It is a grape that provides freshness (acidity), with subtle floral and citrus aromas and a peculiar hint of laurel, which is supposedly the origin of its name.
Few wineries have decided to make it as a single varietal, but the few that have done so have managed to show great results, especially with ageing on lees.
