DESCRIPTION

This is one of the areas of recent incorporation to the Argentine oenological panorama. Its growth in recent years has been really considerable, to the point of becoming the fastest growing viticultural center of the Argentine Republic. Its fertile landscape contrasts with the aridity of the northern mountains, since in this area the Andes Mountain Range loses altitude and descends to 275 meters.

NUMBER OF HECTARES: 1.631

RANGE OF ALTITUDE: 250 m. - 460 m.

PREDOMINANT VARIETIES

Whites: sauvignon blanc.

Reds: merlot, pinot noir and malbec.

CLIMATOLOGY AND SOILS

The vineyard is located mainly in the easternmost part of the province, where rainfall is less than 150 mm per year. Summers are hot, with temperatures up to 40ºC during the day, with cool nights. Winters are cold, with absolute minimum temperatures down to -14º C below zero and an average winter temperature of -5º C. The soils are mainly clay, silt and sand.

In the westernmost zone the climate is much colder due to the proximity of the Andes, with marked thermal integrals. Curiously, at lower altitudes the climate is less hot than in Mendoza, mainly due to its latitude closer to the southern pole. These characteristics mean that the grapes ripen slowly, which is why short-cycle varieties such as merlot, savignon blanc or pinot noir are better tempered, obtaining excellent results in their white wines and sparkling wines.
