DESCRIPTION
It is bordered to the north by the Antofagasta Region, to the south by the Coquimbo Region, to the east by the provinces of Catamarca, La Rioja and San Juan of the Republic of Argentina and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. Its capital is Copiapó, 806 km north of the capital of Chile, Santiago. The 90% of the production is of table grapes. The transversal cords that unite the Coastal and Andean ranges form river valleys.

ALTITUDE RANGE: Some valleys can reach 1,000 meters, but the Andes in this region can reach 5,000 meters.
PREDOMINANT VARIETIES: The predominant table grape is the Thomson variety, which is mainly destined for the United States, Holland and Mexico. Red Globe is mainly marketed in Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. In bottled wines, there is a greater abundance of red varieties, but Muscat of Alexandria is the grape with the highest volume.
CLIMATE AND SOILS
Desert predominates, tempered from north to south by rainfall. Near the coast, the fogs are copious.
PRODUCING AREAS
Grape growing takes place in the southern zone, in the sub-zones of Copiapó and Huasco, valleys created by a river that crosses from east to west.
