The vineyards are located on hillsides, with altitudes ranging from 600 to 800 meters. The relief is rugged and the soils are poor and slatey in nature. Montánchez. It integrates 27 municipalities. It is characterized by its complicated orography, with numerous hills and small valleys. The vineyards are located in acid brown soils. The climate is continental and the average annual rainfall is between 500 and 600 mm. The white Borba grapevine occupies two thirds of the vineyards in the area.

Ribera Alta. It occupies the Vegas del Guadiana and the plains of La Serena and Campo de Castuera and includes 38 municipalities. The soils are very sandy. The most abundant varieties are alarije, borba (white), tempranillo and garnacha (red).

Ribera Baja. It integrates 11 municipalities. The vineyards are located on clay-loam soils. The climate is continental, with moderate Atlantic influence and little climatic variation. The main varieties are: cayetana blanca and pardina, among the whites; and tempranillo in reds.

Matanegra. It has a certain similarity with Tierra de Barros, but the climate is somewhat milder. It includes eight municipalities and its main varieties are beba, montua (white), tempranillo, garnacha and cabernet sauvignon (red).

Tierra de Barros. Located in the center of the province of Badajoz, it is the most extensive (4,475 hectares and 37 municipalities). It has flat lands, fertile soils rich in nutrients and with great capacity for water retention (rainfall is low: 350-450 mm. per year). GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES
With the differences that may appear between the different sub-zones, the whites are substantial, with Mediterranean character (mountain herbs, undergrowth), soft in the mouth but at the same time persistent and very tasty.

ROSÉS
Except for some modern vinification, with the well-known raspberry flavor, in general they are warm, very fruity and with a touch of sweetness produced by the high alcohol content.

RED WINE
The reds are powerful, warm, smooth, with sweet and balsamic tannins, even coming from Tempranillo. Flavors of sunny vineyards with a Grenache that provides the ripe and fruity touch, characteristic of this grape.
