Countdown to the start of the Salón de los Mejor Vinos de España (Best Wines of Spain Showroom)

17 November 2021

The Salón de los Mejores Vinos de España, the sector's most important event, is back with record figures for its 21st edition, bringing together more than 350 Spanish wineries in the same space to present 2,100 wines. The event, organised by Peñín, will be held at IFEMA MADRID and will once again bring together professionals and producers at the largest gathering of quality Spanish wine on a national and international level.

This show will allow visitors to tour the Spanish wines that have a proven quality endorsed by the Peñín Guide. Therefore, visitors will only have access to those wines considered excellent and which have obtained a rating of 90 points or more in the last two editions of the Peñín Guide to Spanish Wines.

Throughout the two days of the show, visitors will be able to take a complete tour of the varieties and styles that currently exist in Spain. In this edition, visitors will be able to discover wines from 66 different growing regions, including Denominaciones de Origen, Vinos de la Tierra and Pago wines. By category, red wines will once again be the most popular type of wine, followed by whites, sparkling wines, fortified wines and rosés. In addition, the Show will highlight the presence of 98 wineries producing exceptional wines, references that have achieved a score of 95 points or more and which will be exhibited in two prominent areas of the Pavilion.

To help visitors on their tour of the Show, the Peñín tasting team has designed four routes. This year's themes are: great wines with age, organic wines, wines to discover and the route of contrasts.

New Vermouth Space

For the first time, the Show will dedicate a special area to the Best Vermouths, i.e. those that have obtained 90 points or more in the Peñín Vermouth Guide, the only guide dedicated exclusively to this wine-based drink. The vermouth area will be made up of 20 exhibitors who will present more than 120 high quality products made in our country.

Tasting programme and collaborators

The Salón de los Mejores Vinos will feature a full programme of seminars and masterclasses for attending professionals. On this occasion, they will be led by the designations of origin Bizkaiko Txakolina, Campo de Borja, Cava, Ribeira Sacra, the Tarsus winery and the Spanish Wine Academy project. Six tastings held by leading sommeliers and oenologists and made up exclusively of wines rated with 90 points or more in the Peñín Guide 2022, which will serve to discover some of the most representative appellations, grape varieties and winemaking styles in Spain.

As is usual at all Peñín events, the official glass of the Show will be from the Riedel brand, who will supply them through Euroselecció, its distributor in Spain. In addition, Pan de Olivo, an artisan bakery company based in Jaén, will be offering the professionals attending the event the chance to taste its products, and Sierra Cazorla, a low-mineralisation water from the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park, will be presenting its full range of products.

The fair, which is now in its 21st edition, has always had an attendance segmented by quality, an exclusive Peñín format where professionals can taste and discover a representation of the best wines produced in Spain.
