Malbec
Synonyms: agreste, auxerrois, bouyssales, cahors (France), cor, cors, cos (Vienna), côt (Vienna), cots, malbech (Italy), mancin (Gironde), nuar de presac (Moldavia).
Red variety of French origin, where it is better known as cot. Early budding and medium ripening. The cluster is small to medium sized, with very tightly packed berries, which makes it very sensitive to fungal diseases (mildew, powdery mildew, botrytis). It is usually a very flexible variety, so it adapts very well to the different terroirs in which it is planted.
The resulting wines depend a lot on the climate and the soil, but they are usually wines with a lot of colour, fruitiness and tannin, so they are very suitable for ageing in oak barrels. Aromatically, they usually have a slight wild nuance and a waxy touch.
