SITUATION

The production area includes the territory located southeast of the province of Cuenca and northeast of Albacete, between the Júcar and Cabriel rivers. It covers 70 municipalities, 26 of them in Albacete and the rest belonging to Cuenca.

CLIMATE

The climate is continental, with cool winters and hot summers, although during the summer the cool humid winds, from the Mediterranean, allow night temperatures to drop, resulting in day/night temperature differences that are especially favorable for slow grape ripening.

SOILS

The vineyard is located at an altitude between 600 and 700 meters above sea level. The orography is fundamentally flat, except for the unevenness traced by the rivers. Regarding the composition of the soil, under a clayey, gravelly or sandy surface, the calcareous component prevails, an important quality factor for the area.

VARIETIES

White: albillo, chardonnay, macabeo, sauvignon blanc, verdejo, pardillo, viognier and muscatel de grano menudo.
Reds: bobal, cabernet sauvignon, cencibel (tempranillo), garnacha, merlot, monastrell, sweet moravia, syrah, garnacha tintorera, malbec, moravia agria, mazuelo, graciano, rojal, frasco (red velasco), petit verdot, cabernet franc and pinot noir.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES
Normally made with macabeo, they are straw yellow in color, have fruity apple aromas, and are pleasant and easy to drink in the mouth.

ROSÉS
Raspberry-colored, bobal gives intense fruity aromas of raspberry and, sometimes, hints of herbs; in the mouth they are tasty, fresh and balanced.

RED WINE
Cherry-colored, they are quite similar to those from La Mancha, with notes of bramble, fruity and sometimes with an earthy background; in the mouth they are smooth, tasty and warm. Bobal wines offer a more defined fruit expression (blackberry) and are very tasty.
