CLIMATE AND SOILS

A variety of climates coexist, mainly due to the presence of the Sierra Madre Orien- tal in the northernmost part of the state. The climate is predominantly dry, except in the northern region, where temperatures are moderate and rainfall is more abundant than in the south.
Located in the heart of Mexico, the region has the presence of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, which gives its northernmost zone a climate different from the rest of the state. The vineyard is located far from this mountain range, in an area dominated by valleys and lower altitudes than in the northern region. The lack of rainfall forces growers to resort to springs near the vineyard in order to grow their vines. Up to nine aquifers are found in Querétaro to supply water to the state.

PRODUCTION ZONES

Querétaro's main wine production zones are located in the south-central part of the state, in the municipalities of San Juan del Río and Ezequiel Montes, where a semi-dry temperate climate dominates the area's wine production, with about 20 hectares of vineyards under cultivation.
