Tempranillo blanco

Synonyms: no known synonym.

It is a white mutation of the Tempranillo variety, discovered in La Rioja in 1988. Physically the two are very similar and share a short ripening cycle. The vine is medium to highly vigorous and moderately productive.

It was authorized in the Rioja DOC in 2004 and is the only place where wines are made from this variety both in single varietals and in blends with Viura or Malvasía, where it is common to ferment or age in barrels. Tempranillo white wines show expression of citrus, white stone or tropical fruit and floral terpenic notes. They also show notes associated with oak aging such as toasted bread or sweet spices. In the mouth they are warm and have good acidity and structure.
