SITUATION

It occupies the northwest of the island of Tenerife and includes the municipalities of San Juan de La Rambla, La Guancha, Icod de los Vinos, Los Silos, El Tanque, Garachico, Buenavista del Norte, Santiago del Teide and Guía de Isora.

CLIMATE

It is of Mediterranean type, characterized by the multitude of existing microclimates depending on the altitude and other geographical conditions. The trade winds provide the necessary humidity for the development of the vines. The average annual temperature is 19ºC and rainfall is around 540 mm. per year.

SOILS

Of ash and volcanic rocks in the higher lands, and of clayey character at lower altitudes. The vineyard is cultivated at very varied altitudes, from 50 to 1,400 meters.

VARIETIES

White: bermejuela (or marmajuelo), güal, malvasía, moscatel, pedro ximénez, verdello, vijariego, albillo, bastardo blanco, forastera blanca, listán blanco (majority), sabro and torrontés.

Reds: tintilla, listán negro (majority), malvasía rosada, negramoll, castellana, bastardo negra, moscatel negra and vijariego negra.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES
The most abundant wines of the wine region are the listan whites, fresh, tasty and quite expressive. They are produced as dry, semi-dry, sweet wines and there are also experiences of fermentation in barrels.

ROSÉS
They have a strawberry color, offer good fruit expression and are pleasantly herbaceous.

REDS
They have a garnet cherry color; they are very fruity and fresh; sometimes they develop balsamic aromas: eucalyptus and leaves.
