Trepat

Synonyms: bonicaire (Murcia), carlina, embolicaire, negra blanca, parrel, parrel-verdal, trepat negre, traput.

Variety of early budding and late ripening, with relatively thick skin. It is native to the Conca de Barberà in Catalonia, where it is most commonly grown. It is also allowed in the designations of origin Costers del Segre, Catalunya and Cava. Under the name bonicaire it can still be found in Valencia or further south in Murcia, but very few examples remain.

It is often used to make fruity and fresh rosé wines, (it can be included in rosé cavas). However, the variety has very good potential for making light, medium-low robe reds, with notes of red fruit, pepper, wild herbs and sometimes sulfur mineral notes due to its reductive nature. The palate has high acidity, moderate tannins and the best examples are elegant and long.
