SITUATION

In the north of the island of Tenerife. It limits to the west with the DO of Ycoden - Daute - Isora and to the east with that of Tacoronte - Acentejo. It extends from the sea to the foot of Mount Teide and includes the municipalities of La Orotava, Los Realejos and El Puerto de la Cruz.

CLIMATE

As in other regions of the islands, the weather conditions are conditioned by the influence of the trade winds which, in this region, determine wines of moderate alcoholic content and eminently Atlantic character. This Atlantic influence is also important in that it softens the temperature of the coastal areas and provides high levels of humidity. Finally, the rainfall index is quite low, but in general rainfall is more abundant on the northern slopes and higher areas.

SOILS

The soils are light, permeable, rich in mineral nutrients and with a slightly acid pH, due to the volcanic nature of the island. The vineyard is located between 250 and 700 meters above sea level.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES
Similar to those of Tacoronte in that they share the same Atlantic character, although more accentuated than in its southern neighbor. Straw yellow in color; fresh, fruity, with somewhat herbaceous notes but which, in the best examples, can reproduce the finesse of fennel or mint.

ROSÉS
Although production is much lower, there are some good examples of modern rosés, raspberry colored, very fruity aromas, fresh and pleasant in the mouth.

RED WINE
More and more red wines are being produced in the area. These are wines that enjoy great singularity, with a garnet cherry color, good aromatic intensity and notes of red fruits in accordance with their Atlantic character; in the mouth they are light, tasty and pleasant. The balsamic nuances of its wines and sometimes saline touches stand out.
